I made some coffee liqueur for my friends last night, and I just had a fantastic idea – why not share it with my new friends here too!
Unfortunately I can’t make it for you, but I can walk through making some for yourself. But you have to promise me you’re old enough, okay? 🙂
If you’ve never had any before, coffee liqueur is a coffee flavored, strong, sweet alcoholic drink with fruity flavors and sugar. If you’re a coffee lover like me, I’m sure you’ll love the opportunity to have coffee cocktails!
The two best known store-bought brands are Tia Maria and Kahlua.
They’re both flavored with sugar and vanilla, and are made from coffee and rum. Tia Maria is Jamaican, whike Kahlua is Mexican. Tia Maria is the more alcoholic of the two.
Store bought’s good and all, but you don’t get the pleasure of making it! If you’re like me and love experimenting with your coffee, this next part’s for you!
Homemade Coffee Liqueur
Coffee is a remarkable drink just waiting to be spiced up for cocktails in a variety of ways.
It’s a great drink to enjoy at the end of a hard day to get that strong sweet warm feeling inside you, and your mates will love it too! So impress with your very own special label coffee liqueur!
It can be made by using freshly brewed coffee. Decaff is a good alternative if you’re sensitive to caffeine.
Here’s a quick and easy recipe which I’ve been using:
1 regular size pot of coffee
2 ½ cups white or brown sugar
1 750ml bottle of rum
2 teaspoons vanilla extracts
Make your coffee as normal, add the sugar, and stir it in.
Remove from heat and leave for about an hour to cool.
Once cooled, stir in the rum and vanilla.
Then pour it into some empty bottles you have, make sure it’s airtight, and store for two weeks before enjoying with friends (or keeping it to yourself!).
You can also drizzle your homemade liqueur over ice cream or desserts. Liqueur in Tiramisu is my favorite, but that’s a recipe for another day!
Want something delicious in a hurry?
If you can’t wait two weeks, or want something hot, there’s the old faithful – Irish Coffee!

Wow! look at the haters on here. I made this four times it was excellent. So what if they used Rum and not Vodka, it’s called “being creative”. Try it some time, maybe you won’t be so mean and nasty. Great recipe, I loved it and so did my friends. Thanks for posting.
